Frequently asked questions
Why is data visibility better with TradeLens
TradeLens connects direct to the source of data whenever possible. Direct connections to five of the six largest global ocean carriers, for example, gives the TradeLens platform unprecedented scope and speed of access to containerized data.
What types of data does TradeLens gather
With the direct connections to our network, we have the ability to pull more granular level data from providers. Planned, Estimated and Actual events, along with trade documents, are provided by TradeLens at the shipment, consignment and container levels. For example, data on waypoints from our rail providers enables subscribers to confirm the accuracy and precision of rail ETA information.
What does my quote mean when it says Committed Quantity?
Committed Quantity requires a subscriber to the TradeLens platform to commit to a specified volume over the term of the contract. Committed container quantities should be based on the aggregate multi-carrier volumes expected to be available for access on the platform over the term.
The subscriber of TradeLens will be charged for this committed amount of containers within the contracting period, and will be charged an overage fee per container for all amounts exceeding the minimum committed volume. The subscriber has the ability to increase the minimum container commitment volumes as needed during the contracting period as required.
What does my quote mean when it says Usage Based (i.e. Pay-as-you-Go)?
Usage-Based subscriptions do not require a minimum volume. With Usage-Based, the TradeLens subscriber is billed monthly for the actual number of containers that were successfully loaded on vessel at origin during the preceding month. Usage-Based subscriptions can be canceled after the first month by providing 30 days notice to TradeLens
What are the contract length options
The available contract terms are 6, 12 or 24 months. To determine the quantity required for Committed Quantity subscriptions, estimate total container volumes and divide by the number of months in the contract length.
How can I cancel my agreement
A customer can cancel their usage based or committed quantity contract any time in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org with a 30 days notice period. For committed quantity subscriptions, customers are required to pay for the initial committed term subscription fees. For usage-based purchases, customers are required to pay fees for charges already incurred.
What reporting is available for me to understand the volume of containers already on the TradeLens platform during my contract period
Usage metering is done on a monthly basis and can be requested by sending an email to email@example.com . At this time Usage reports are not available directly in the TradeLens platform.
When you say 'containers' are the base unit of measurement, what do you mean by a container?
Our container calculation metric is based on the quantity of actual physical containers, not TEU or FFE. For example, you had 6 TEUs and 6 FFEs loaded on vessel at origin in a given month, we would consider this 12 containers for billing and usage metering purposes.
How many users can access the platform under my subscription
Subscriptions for Visibility and Collaboration offerings provide unlimited user accounts (unique user IDs) for the Shipment Manager.
How many users can access the dashboards provided under my subscription
Subscriptions for Visibility and Collaboration offerings start with two user accounts (unique user IDs) for use of the Analytics Dashboards. Additional unique user IDs for use of Analytics Dashboards depend on container volumes and can also be purchased.
How many API calls do I get with my subscription?
The quantity of API calls made, and quantity of API data exchanged is unlimited for all TradeLens Core offerings. The charge metric is calculated on the actual quantity of physical containers available on the TradeLens platform for each subscriber.
Is TradeLens Core Essential data only available via API?
Yes, the TradeLens Core Essential offering is structured for customers desiring to access the TradeLens platform through direct integration with internal applications or systems via API integration.
