Unfortunately, such a level of cooperation and support has not been possible to achieve at this point in time and A.P. Moller - Maersk (Maersk) and IBM have announced the discontinuation of the TradeLens platform.

Baku, Azerbaijan — Today Azerbaijan Customs joined TradeLens, the blockchain-enabled supply chain platform, jointly developed by Maersk (through its subsidiary GTD Solution Inc.) and IBM. With more than 100 participants on the platform today, TradeLens is already processing over ten million discrete shipping events and thousands of documents each week, providing shippers, freight forwarders, customs officials and others a common view of transactions and related data.
The adoption of TradeLens is expected to enhance efficiency and add safety to Azerbaijan’s import and export operations. Azerbaijan now joins a growing number of government authorities worldwide to adopt or actively pilot TradeLens for enhancing digitization efforts. The agreement was, signed by Igbal Babayev, Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Norbert Kouwenhoven, TradeLens Authorities Leader.

State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan is reforming all aspects of customs clearance in the country and applying innovative technologies to achieve this target. One of the key objectives of the Committee is to fully automate clearance processes. “TradeLens is a major supply chain platform and becoming a trusted platform for trade industry stakeholders.”
“Blockchain is well positioned to be one of the major components in the elimination of paper documents in the customs industry. The TradeLens platform has fundamentals to assist authorities and stakeholders to achieve efficiencies, reduce the cost of trade and positively affect trade turnover,” said Safar Mehdiyev, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
With TradeLens in place, Azerbaijan will receive earlier and more complete insight regarding the contents of containers and parties involved in the shipments moving across the TradeLens ecosystem. This will allow for improved risk assessment of transports in and out of the county and should lead to faster clearance processes, alleviation of costly compliance burdens for traders, and enhance overall trade facilitation throughout the region.

The State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan Republic is a governmental agency within the Cabinet of Azerbaijan in charge of customs clearance for imports and exports, and regulation of all customs activities within Azerbaijan Republic. As part of its blockchain pilot program, Saudi Customs, with its IT partner, Tabadul, has overseen the integration of FASAH with TradeLens. FASAH is Saudi Arabia’s national platform which connects all government and private entities involved in cross border trade.
